Obituary for Marianne Abbrat

Marianne Abbrat
Marianne Elizabeth Abbrat, 73 passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 15, 2017. She was born on October 17, 1943 in Beeville, Texas.

Marianne had a heart of gold and spent her life pouring into others. She began her career as a teacher in Corpus Christi, Texas and later taught in the Cypress Fairbanks ISD where she eventually became the Librarian at Owens Elementary School before retiring after a lengthy career. There are countless children who learned to LOVE reading because of Marianne’s efforts in making books accessible to as many children as possible. Her joy of reading and telling stories sparked a deep love of reading in her students that will be an ongoing legacy in the lives of those she touched. Marianne also had an absolute love for her animals, she has been known to feed birds and squirrels right out of her hand. She had a deep affection for her cats, Harwin and Mousie both of whom she rescued. Marianne loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ above all else and cherished her family deeply. Her husband Don was her number one Sweetheart and they shared 40 years of marriage together. Don and Marianne had a deep and abiding love for one another, they supported each other in everything and left us all a shining example of how to love each other well.

She was also an avid supporter of her sons, Kurt and Kevin and an enormous fan of her beloved grandchildren. Marianne was a member of Second Baptist Church for 27 years. She was an active member of the Straight Path Sunday School Class where she served in many capacities. She also participated in Wednesday Night Outreach and most recently enjoyed participating in a Sewing Ministry that made and sent clothing to an orphanage in Haiti. Marianne’s love for God spilled over into everything she did and you could see it in her smile and in all the fun and laughter she brought to whatever she was doing. Marianne attended and received her Bachelor’s degree from Baylor University and received her Master’s degree from Sam Houston State University. Marianne is preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Alice Caron and sister, Jean New. She leaves in God’s care her loving and devoted husband, Don Abbrat; two dear sons, Kurt Abbrat and wife Jennifer; Kevin Abbrat and wife Kim; six beloved grandchildren, Kelsey, Alexandria, Kaleb, Konner, Austin and Kristianna. Sister, Doris Ginn; Brother, H.E. Caron and wife Ruby and several nieces and nephews as well as many, many dear friends.

Marianne will be greatly missed by so many! Her life will be celebrated in a Memorial Service on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 1:00 pm in the Hankamer Chapel at Second Baptist Church located at 6400 Woodway Drive, Houston, Texas 77057.

Prior to the Memorial Service the Family will have gathered for a private interment at Woodlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery.

Contributions in Marianne’s memory may be directed to Second Baptist Church, Orphan Care Ministry, 6400 Woodway Drive, Houston, Texas 77057 or MD Anderson Cancer Center, 1515 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, Texas 77030.
