Carl Herman Clendennen

Carl Herman Clendennen passed away Wednesday, May 10, in Katy, Texas, after a brief illness. He was 62 years old. He was born in 1954 to Barney and Jimmie Clendennen of Houston. He grew up in Houston and graduated from Cy-Fair High School, Class of 1972. He attended the University of Houston. He met his wife, Angelique “Angie” Ellenburg, in Houston and they were married for 35 years.
When Carl was two years old he contracted polio. This was during the polio epidemic of the 1950s. He survived the disease, endured numerous corrective surgeries, and was able to live an active life into his forties. After that he began to experience symptom of post-polio syndrome, in which the muscles of the body start deteriorating from overuse. There is no cure for this condition. He eventually became wheelchair dependent and homebound, but was able to continue working from home. His angel on earth, his wife Angie, was devoted to Carl and was his sole caregiver until his death.
Carl was a valued employee of Titanium Fabrication Corporation and worked for them for over 35 years. Although the company headquarters moved to Ohio from Houston several years ago, Carl was retained because of his uncanny skill at estimating jobs. This was work he could do from his computer at home and he worked up until his recent illness.
Carl is preceded in death by his mother and father, and his brother, Charles Clendennen. He is survived by his wife, son Daniel Lee Clendennen, and granddaughters Zoey and Emily Clendennen. He is also survived by sisters Beverly McNulty (husband Cootie) of Montgomery, Texas, and Linda Ponder (husband John) of Colleyville, Texas, numerous relatives and loving friends.
Visitation will be Monday, May 15, 4-8 pm, in the Chapel at Woodlawn Garden of Memories, 1101 Antoine Dr., Houston, Texas 77055. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 16, 11:00 am at Woodlawn.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Valbona-Weil Fund to assist polio patients at TIRR Memorial Hermann. Donations can be mailed to Memorial Hermann Foundation, 929 Gessner, Suite 2650, Houston, TX 77024, by phone at 713-242-4400, or online at memorialhermann.org.
