Obituary for Elvia Rodriguez

Elvia M. Rodriguez, 87, passed away on June 3, 2018. Born July 17, 1930 in Monterrey, Mexico to Romualdo and Aurora Martinez.
Elvia immigrated to the U.S. with her daughter in 1949. She worked at Union National Insurance Co for many years. During those years she met Jose Rodriguez, married him, and worked with him in his tailoring business. They had three children together. Besides her four children, she has eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was an entrepreneur, opening and operating El Caballero Latin Club, a highly successful nightclub in Houston in the 1980’s. But she always made time for family, with family entertaining and cooking. After retirement, she also enjoyed bingo and an occasional Chardonnay.
Elvia is preceded in death by her parents, Romualdo and Aurora Martinez, a brother Ray Martinez, and two sisters, Rosalinda Guzman and Blanca Alcocer and husband Fernando, a sister-in-law, Rosie Martinez, and a stepson, Jorge Rodriguez. She leaves behind her partner of over 30 years, Baudelio Caballero, a brother, Oscar Martinez and wife Sulema, a brother-in-law, Raul Guzman, a sister-in-law, Becky Martinez, and three daughters and one son: Lupita Kingham and husband Harold, Elvia Harms and husband Russ, Clara Castro and husband Jose, and Jose Rodriguez and wife Julie.
A visitation is planned for Thursday, June 7 from 5 PM to 8 PM at Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rosary being prayed at 7 PM. A Catholic burial service will be Friday, June 8 at 11 AM at Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel 1101 Antoine Drive. Interment will follow at the Woodlawn Garden of Memories Cemetery.
