Obituary for Dagmar Ricketts

Dagmar Ricketts
Dagmar Marie Thyssen Donnelly Ricketts passed peacefully on Sunday, June 17, 2018, surrounded by loved ones.
She was born on April 9, 1934 and raised in the Danish farming community of Danevang, Texas. She came to Houston, at the age of 17, and worked for Baroid, where she made lifelong friends, until her early retirement at the age of 51. She enjoyed bowling and played on leagues well into her 70’s. She loved watching Wheel of Fortune in the evening with a glass of white wine, after walking her dog, Cassie. Dagmar also had a group of loving friends with whom she dined every week. Richard, Alice, Carl and Liz continued to visit mom until she left Houston, and regularly sent her cards on special occasions.
She was preceded in death by two loving husbands, Marcus E. (Gene) Donnelly, with whom she spent 35 years raising their four children, spending summer vacations at the beach, and “scooterpoopin’” every Friday night at the Ridgepoint Lounge; and William P. (Bill) Ricketts with whom she traveled the world and sailed the seas; parents, Carl and Ida Thyssen; siblings, Magdalene, Ingaborg, Gerda, Alfred, Thorvald, Holger, and Gunnar.
She is survived by her four children, Linda Donnelly (Gary Harriss), Cheryl (James) Lucas, Marc Donnelly (Lisa Dhans) and Susan (Larry) Looger; seven grandchildren, Ryan Lucas, Tyler Knighton, Kelly (Daniel) Kalbow, Joey Bonugli, Kyle Lucas, Sean Lucas and Paige Bonugli; and one great grandson, Wyatt Kalbow.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 25, from 5-8 pm. Memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 26, at 12 pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 1101 Antoine, Houston, Texas 77055.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Autumn Grove Memory Care and the hospice nurses who took such loving care of her in the last year.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Danish Heritage Preservation Society (DHPS), P.O. Box 368, Danevang, Texas 77432.
