Darrell Dean, 81, of Palestine, TX entered into eternal life on June 21, 2018. He is preceded in death by his parents Mary and Jim Dean, sister Mary Bohannon, and brothers-in-law George Gerdes and Gus Wimp. Darrell is survived by daughter Debra Witterick of Palestine; sisters Loretta Wimp and Sherry Gerdes of Palestine; brother Phillip Dean and wife Muriel of Livermore, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Darrell was formerly employed as a motorcycle policeman with the Pasadena Police Department. After an accident, he worked as a crime scene investigator for the police department, being one of the first to do that line of work. Darrell retired from the Palestine School District.
Darrell deeply loved his family, and never met a stranger. He had many friends in Palestine, where he lived for the past 40 years. He enjoyed golf, bowling, bingo, fishing, and hunting. For many years he raised cattle. His major accomplishment was that he built his house and barn, with a little help. He loved his ranch.
Services for Darrell will be held on Monday, June 25, 2018, at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 1101 Antoine Drive, Houston, TX, with visitation at 11:00 am, and the funeral at 1:00 pm. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Garden of Memories.
