Rudolph "Rudy" Eugene Spitzenberger
Rudolph “Rudy” Eugene Spitzenberger went to his heavenly home on August 24, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born to Rudolph and Ruth Spitzenberger at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Houston, Texas on June 5, 1935. He was a loving son, husband, father, had a special gift of gab and never met a stranger, and a heart bigger than Texas. He married Virginia Joy Carnes on May 26, 1956 and raised three children. Rudy was a natural athlete and had a passion for football and played at Lamar High School, University of Houston, and a short stint in the NFL being drafted by the Browns and later joined the Steelers. After proving that the NFL salary would not support his family he returned to Houston to obtain his teaching degree at the University of Houston. Rudy later went on to coach high school football and invested in real estate to support his family. He sacrificed his self to make sure that his family was supported and was his family’s leader and rock. Rudy loved kids and developed many friendships with his former students that he maintained to the day he died. Rudy’s favorite thing to do was to spend time with his family and specially grandchildren. Rudy is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Virginia Lancaster. He is survived by his wife Virginia, his son Rudy Spitzenberger, Jr. and wife Margaret, son Randy Spitzenberger, and daughter Rhonda Brunner and husband George, grandchildren Cody and Christopher Spitzenberger, Amy Chovanec, and Brent, Blake, and Brayden Brunner. Great grandchildren Jeremy and Kallie Chovanec and extended family and friends.
Rudy’s life will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at 11:00am in the Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home. The family will receive guests beginning at 10:00am. Following services, Rudy will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Garden of Memories.
