Obituary for Hubert Hagg

Hubert Hagg
Born in Houston to Ethel Wright and Hubert Hagg, Hub graduated from old Sam Houston High School, and attended Southwest Texas State Teachers’ college where he met his sweetheart, Myrle Elizabeth Wilson, with whom he was married for 68 years. Hub served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in WWll, worked for the Houston Chronicle and Houston Press newspapers, and ultimately made a career in the laundry and dry cleaning business at Campus Cleaners from which he retired at age 62. He coached Denver Harbor area Little League baseball, served as Cub Scout Pack leader, was active with the youth of Ludtke Methodist Church, and later served as the park, pool and grounds manager for his Braeswood area neighborhood. He played tennis weekly until the age of 88. Hub was also a boxer in the Golden Gloves circuit as a youth. Hub was a “Hub” of volunteerism and activity. Hub was a witty man that was quick to crack a smile and a joke right until the end. Hub will be missed by many; he leaves behind a large and loving family, including three children; Carol Barwick, Michael Hagg and Steve Hagg; 6 grandchildren – Jack Bush, Andrew Bush, Courtney Byron, Haley Lobland, Wilson Hagg and Ronnie Hagg; 17 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. The family would also like to thank his caregiver for the past 6 months, Ms. Linda Le.
