Obituary for Patrick Furr

Patrick Lee Furr, 71, passed away peacefully after a hard-fought battle with Leukemia on Monday, September 24, 2018 in Houston. Born July 8, 1947 in Houston, TX to Oran “Lee” and Joyce Furr. He lived most of his life in Houston, except for a short time in El Dorado, TX. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves 1967-1976, as Staff Sergeant (SSGT).
Patrick had a strong commitment to his faith and the Catholic Church, and was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus Counsel 4550. He was an active member for 49 years, reaching the 3rd degree. In 2017, Patrick was awarded an Honorary Life Membership. Many of his brother Knights over the years became lifelong friends. He was an active member of St. Jerome Catholic Church and current member of St. Edith Stein Catholic Church.
He graduated from Spring Branch High School in 1965, and obtained his B.S. Business Management degree from LeTourneau University.
Patrick met Cynthia Zapalac in junior high, and they later married in 1969, where they enjoyed 49 years of marriage. They had three sons, who gave them five grandchildren.
After the Reserves, he worked in pipefitter and maintenance supervision positions between 1976 to 2003. From 2003 he worked in Safety Health & Disaster Planning with an energy company, with his last position as Director of Safety with Enwave, until his retirement in 2017.
He had a passion for wood working, where he made many works of art, such as furniture, wall accessories, and remodels. He enjoyed bowling, where he won several trophies, and passed the time fishing, traveling, cruising with friends, reading books, and crossword puzzles.
Patrick enjoyed a strong connection to family, bestowing values to his children that you need to work hard to achieve your goals. If there was a need to help family or friends, he was there.
Patrick was preceded in death by his father, Oran Lee Furr, and his brother, Clif Furr. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Furr, of 49 years; his son, Patrick, and wife Lori; his son, Brian, and wife Amanda; his son, Scott, and wife Evelyn; and 5 beautiful grand-children, Shannon, Kylie, Nathan, Aislinn and Aiden.
The Holy Rosary will be prayed at six o’clock by Deacon Dan O’Dowd of St. Jerome Catholic Church, followed by a celebration of life planned for Friday evening, September 28, 2018 from seven o’clock until nine o’clock at the Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at eleven o’clock in the morning, Saturday, September 29, 2018 at St. Edith Stein Catholic Church, 3311 North Fry Road, Katy, TX 77449. Father Ryszard Kulma will be the Celebrant.
Honorary Pallbearers for the service are his grandchildren Shannon Furr, Kylie Furr, Nathan Furr, Aislinn Furr, and Aiden Furr.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested any donations to be made to St. Edith Stein Catholic Church - Capital Campaign.
